5-year limit for qualifying backlog/Reappear subjects: Authorities have amended the nomenclature for qualifying the exams of all backlog subjects within the stipulated time period of five years.

Director Academics for Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE), Farooq Ahmad Peer said, “The regulation governing number of chances to qualify or to complete an examination without any restriction, availed by the candidates of secondary school examination of class 10th and higher secondary examination of 11th and 12th standard is hereby withdrawn.

Peer said that the decision was taken by the Board of Governors in a meeting held in February-2022.

Meanwhile, BOSE in a notification further notified that henceforth the candidates placed under reappear category for the first time or placed under reappear category previously in any such examination shall have to qualify or complete the examination within a period of five years irrespective of number of chances or till the relevant course or the scheme of studies is in vogue. “This is issued in supersession of all such previous notifications issued in this regard from time to time and shall come into force from the annual regular exams of 2022 for summer zone and annual, bi-annual exams of 2021-22 to be held in summer zone areas of Jammu division, Kashmir division, winter zone areas of Jammu division and UT of Ladakh respectively.

The BOSE however also said that all such private candidates who have been placed under reappear category prior to four years or earlier shall be allowed one mercy chance in annual, bi-annual exams of 2022-2023 in respect of Kashmir division, winter zone areas of Jammu division, UT of Ladakh and annual, bi-annual 2023 and in respect of summer zone areas of Jammu Division in addition to ensuing annual, bi-annual exams of 2021-2022 and 2022 sessions respectively to complete the examination failing which they shall have to appear afresh in all the subjects thereafter.
